Govinda 'Biyogi' Champion of Nepali Media and Pioneer of "Press Freedom Movement", was born in 1929 Nov. 18 in Kathmandu as the 2nd child of Bhumimananda Vaidya and Hit Kumari Vaidya.
He started his profession in media at his early age of 18. He proved his creativity by starting handwritten newspaper 'Jayabageshwori' (named after his birthplace -a famous shrine near World Heritage and Hindu Shrine PASHUPATI NATH) and continued till many popular and established Papers like 'Lokdoot', 'Matribhoomi' and 'Janadoot' that heavily influenced public to sway their opinion towards freedom and human right.
He worked and contributed a lot continuously towards the establishment of Nepali name in national and international level by promoting and leading many institutions like Nepal Press Institute, National News Agency, Nepal Journalist Association, Editors' Society of Nepal etc.
He equally contributed and played pivotal role in other areas as well, such as in social service, freedom movement, literary, cultural, education etc. Due to his multi talent and pragmatic conviction, he always used to be focal but neutral to many. Some of his good works include development of academic institutions, establishment of library, development of suppressed and backward community etc. till his end. He also was one of the promoters of Nepal Red Cross Society that created new dimension of social service sector in then Nepal.
He and his works are highly regarded and recognized with high level awards. He also contributed for the development of higher education in Nepal as the Senator of Tribhuwan University, the premier and largest university (one one for many years). Postal Services Department has issued this Postage Stamp to commemorate the Champion late 'Biyogi1 for his so many good works for the country.
