Guru Mangal Das was born as the eldest son of mother Narmada Bai and father Kalyan Das Sapkota in 1952 B.S. in Nepal's East district Ham. Though he hails from an ordinary family background, his contributions to religion, society and literature have been extraordinary.

Guru Mangal Das reached India's State of Assam.took instruction teachings of Shrikrishnapranami Dharma at his early age from Pitambar Das Maharaj and lived there for further education. After completing Padyatra (foot walk) of most of the pilgrimages of India, he reached Haridwara and sat for meditation at the bank of Ganga River. When he received enlightment and inspiration from his hard meditation, he returned back to Nepal to generate awareness and doing social works among people.

As a faithful follower of the norms and values like religious coordination theory, non-violence, compassion and other religious services propounded by Mahamati Prannath of Shrikrishnapranami Dharma, Guru Mangal Das practically translated the true meaning of saying "service is religion" into reality by establishing orphanages, old age centers, hospitals, schools, medical shops etc. He had also accomplished various works of literary writings and publications. His devotion to remove ill-practices of the society like drugs abuse among youths, the person, who inspired women to sit in the dais of Pundit to impart religious discourse.

Guru Mangal Das who chose to work in Nepali living areas of India like West Bengal's Darjeeling, Sikkim, Kalingpong, Siliguri and Nepal's eastern parts, died at the age of 89 in 2042 B.S. There is Mangal Memorial Building (Mangaldham) in Kalingpong (India) and this place has earned fame of tourism spot now.

The postal services Department feels honored to bring out this commemorative postage stamp in honour Guru Mangal Das.
