Chhath Festival :
The Sun god is worshipped in the Chhath Festival. Creation cannot be imagined without Sun. Sun has been discrened on its importance since Vedic period. Women take part on Kartik Sukla Khasthi for Chhathi Mata at this festival. They take fasting the whole day and offer Jala (water) to Sun in the second day to Sun in the morning. Then after they take rice and women stand in the water with fruits and bread to offer water to Sun before it rises. It is belived that women who take part on this festival will have bestowed son and live long. It is the ceremony to offer water to Sun, therefore it is celebrated in the pond and river bank. This festival is celebrated specially in Janakpur, Siraha, Saptari, Parsa etc. But since a few years it has been a great attraction in Kathmandu also.


Lahurya Folk Dance:
Among the (important) festivals celebrated by the Magar community Yaunat is also one of them. This festival is celebrated on the day of Fagu Purnima and during this occasion Lahurya Folk Dance is especially performed in Alamdevi Temple situated in Lasargha Village.

This dance is only performed in important festivals. The features of this dance is that there is a tradition of young lady (women) wearing men's clothing and covering their face while dancing. Also during the dance, dancers place handkerchief on audience's shoulder and the audience has to give some amount according to one's wish liability.

During the occasion of Yaunat Festival, apart from Lahurya Dance, other folk dances such as Salejo and Jhyaure are also performed.

On the background at Lahurya Dance, a temple can be seen which is located in Lasargha Village of Alamdevi VDC in the western part of Syangj'a district, Alamdevi temple is well known religious place of the western region of Nepal.
