Mt. Dhaulagiri, lying 8146 m. above sea level and in 28°, 41', 46" latitude and 38°, 29', 43" longitudes, is situated in the Myagdi district in the western region of Nepal.

Swiss Mountaineer Amest Forer became the first mountaineer to ascent Mt. Dhaulagiri on 10th May 1960. From the same team Nepali mountaineer Nwang Dorjee had also successfully ascended this mountain.

Till 2009 the total mountaineers climbing Mt. Dhaulagiri reached 413.

It has been 50 years since the first ascent of Mt. Dhaulagiri and to commemorate this event and make it memorable, Postal Services Department of Nepal has brought out a commemorative postage stamp depicting the image of Mt. Dhaulagiri.
